Remembrance Weekend opportunity to climb the church tower
During Remembrance weekend there was a rare chance to visit the village's 100 year old War Memorial; the clock in St Nicholas' Church Tower.
Over two dozen hardy souls turned out for the event organised by the Parish Council and the PCC. Most agreed it was worth the struggle up the narrow circular stairs to the clock room although not many ventured further to the higher level because access was very narrow.
The War Memorial clock is quite unique because there are very few four-sided church clocks in existence. It was installed 100 years ago this November, following fund raising by villagers. The dials, one on each of the compass points, are mounted on the base of the spire, above the tower. There is an associated wooden board in the porch listing those from South Kilworth who had given their lives in the First World War.
