Welcome to the website for South Kilworth Village

July 6th, 2017 in Notice Board by admin

To mark the beginning of the Festival of Archaeology we have opted to conduct a Community Test Pit dig as part of the national Festival of Archaeology fortnight, on 15th and 16th July 2017.

Our intention is to try to identify if there is any evidence of a Roman farmstead situated off Brookfield Way. We know there were field systems both to the south and west of Brookfield Way and the existing development around Lilac Drive represents a ‘high point’ in the area and may well contain the remains of some form of settlement. The Bellway Homes estate has been built on an Iron Age settlement, so the area was used many years ago.

We will dig a series of test pits on the land owned by Harborough District Council and we will wash and identify the finds during the dig. There is no charge to participate and equipment will be provided and Insurance is given by the Festival of Archaeology.

If you are interested in participating or just have some garden finds you want identified please contact Mike Southall on 554124 or michael.southall@mypostoce.co.uk for further details.

Alternatively contact Hilary Craig 575708 for more details. Lutterworth Fieldworking and Archaeological group
